Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the most appealing accent of them all? The answers may surprise you!
According to statistics, which I heard on the radio, the majority of men find women with an Israeli accent irresistible. On the other hand, women favour men with a British accent – and I’m sure they mean the James Bond accent and not a cockney one.
I must confess that this was news to me. The British accent! Really? Who’d have thought! However, I suppose if you consider that this poll was probably conducted using a largely American audience, then it all makes sense. American women do love a British accent.
I’m personally a huge sucker for a Scottish or Irish accent. That’s enough to make any woman go weak at the knees as far as I’m concerned. Don’t ask me what it is, but those accents are like music to my ears.
Of course, not everyone will agree with me and that’s what makes beauty – and attraction – so wonderful. What one person finds attractive, another person may find repulsive, which is actually just as well or people wouldn’t pair off quite so successfully.
Take my good friend, for example. She goes absolutely crazy for a guy with long hair. I, on the other hand, get an insatiable urge to become a hairdresser whenever I see those boys with their ponytails. I could never date a guy with long hair. It’s an instant turnoff and the thought of waking up next to a man with all his beautiful locks haloing his face would be about as delightful as waking up next to Cousin Itt from The Addams Family.
However, as I said, some women love a man with long hair or – yes, apparently it gets better – one in a kilt. Or, even a hunky, long-haired, unshaven man in a kilt! And, since I was just talking about the Scottish accent, we may as well take a moment to consider this phenomenon, because apparently the kilt beats the Scottish accent hands down.
This startling realization became rather evident when an ordinary evening at book club suddenly turned into a steamy conversation about the sex appeal of a man in a kilt. Who knew there was such a thing! But, as it turns out, quite a number of my friends got so impassioned at the mere mention of this topic – and the thought of a manly Scotsman in his kilt – that I swear they nearly swooned on the spot. There were murmurs of approval, words of blatant admiration, gestures of agreement and squeals of unconcealed delight.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Scotland. It’s a beautiful country. But, the knee-length, tartan piece of fabric is something beyond my comprehension. As a result, there was nothing but silent amusement on my side as I listened to my friends’ giddy delight. Of course, I have an inkling that Braveheart is behind this surprising fetish, which explains a lot, but… I’m afraid I just don’t get it.
I’ll take a man in a stylish pair of jeans over a guy in a skirt any day – and don’t even get me started on the creepy underwear or no underwear debate! That question can gladly remain a mystery for all eternity, because I’d rather not know the answer.
That said, this is obviously all entirely subjective, as my dear friends would completely disagree with me when it comes to men in kilts. And, that’s why the phrase “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is so profoundly brilliant. So, who’s really to say what accent is the most appealing, because attraction is the most mysterious concept of them all.
